  • General Info

    Ataxin® manufacturer is SavaVet. Ataxin® comprises the active ingredient called Enrofloxacin – a synthetic chemotherapeutic agent from the class of the quinolone carboxylic acid derivatives.

    - urogenital tract infections;

    - respiratory tract infections;

    - infections of alimentary canal;

    - secondary skin and soft tissue infections (wounds, abscesses, and lacerations);

    Ataxin® is not effective for treating infections caused by a virus or fungus.

    MOA (mechanism of action):

    Enrofloxacin is second-generation fluoroquinolone – a bactericidal drug that interferes with two intercellular enzymes, DNA gyrase (DNA topoisomerase II) and DNA topoisomerase IV, which are crucial for bacterial DNA transcription, synthesis and replication. Enrofloxacin is believed to bind with DNA and inhibit the essential processes catalyzed by the enzymes. This results in DNA fragmentation and bacterial cell death.

    Before starting Ataxin® therapy, the involved pathogens should be identified and sensitivity to Enrofloxacin established.

    The usual dosage: 5mg/kg of body weight. One 50 mg tablet per 10 kg or one 150 mg tablet per 30 kg.

    Ataxin® is administered once daily or as a divided dose twice daily for 3 to 10 days with or without food.

    Do not use Ataxin® in small and medium breed dogs during the rapid growth phase (between 2 and 8 months of age).

    The safe use of Ataxin® has not been established in large and giant breeds during the rapid growth phase.

    Do not exceed 5 mg/kg of body weight per day in cats.

    Ataxin® is not recommended for use in cats less than 8 weeks of age.

    Ataxin® should not be used for prophylaxis.

    Wash hands after use.

    Missing a dose

    If you miss a dose you should give it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue the regular dosing schedule. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. In cat, retinotoxic effects can occur when the recommended dose is exceeded.

    If an overdose occurs and a pet is feeling unwell, stop giving the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact a healthcare provider immediately.

    Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date. Keep out of the reach of children.
